The Norris Geyser Basin
A father and daughter we met the day before at the Old Faithful geyser gave us the tip to take a look at Norris, situated between Madison and Mammoth. Indeed, the collection of geysers and hotsprings here sit in a very different setting. The Faithful basin is quite open, here the geothermic activity takes place in a forest surrounding. There are of course open spaces because the vegetation doesn't survive at the boiling acid or alkaline water.
Two boardwalk tours, a long one and a shorter, are set out through the basin. It is advised not to step down from them, because the soil is treacherous, hot and unstable.
